1st Day

As planned, I went to yoga today. And as expected it was rather challenging, especially since I haven't done any strenuous physical activity since November...
However, I made it through the heat and completed the class and felt good about it afterwards. I'm not nearly as strong or as flexible as I was last summer when I took a couple of months of Bikram classes. But I can remember how much I improved in just a couple of months, and figure that, especially by going every morning, I should be back to the same level in a few weeks.

Afterwards I came home, showered, ate breakfast, and checked email/fb/rss, and then went to get a massage. It was probably the most painfully awesome massage I've had yet. The focus was on my shoulders and neck, and boy were they tight. But that was the reason I went in, because they've been really achy recently since I tend to carry all of my stress in my shoulders. As I've started becoming more aware of my shoulders I've also realized how often my movements begin from my shoulders even when they have no reason to. So I'm going to try to get better about not doing that.

So now I feel healthy, relaxed and ready to get to work... or at least almost ready...

major lifestyle change

After a couple of months of trying to establish better habits, with only limited success, I've decided to try something completely different. Starting on Saturday I am going to go to early morning Bikram Yoga classes! This means that during the week I will be waking up before sunrise...something I haven't done since high school marching band. But I think this will help to increase my breakfast appetite, encourage me to always take morning showers, and get me ready to start studying before 10am.
I took a couple months worth of Bikram classes last summer, but going to evening class after work and coming home smelly, exhausted and hungry at 9pm, wasn't a feasible option during school. Plus my heartburn would always act up if I tried eating a full meal afterwards. Hopefully morning class will solve these problems.Besides, maybe in the long run I will finally be able to be in as good of shape as I was when I was doing ballet 10 years ago. Goal:
